Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is the uniform jacket & garrison cap of Private First Class Ralph W. Warner, Headquarters Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, who fought in the Pacific theater during World War II. While overseas, Warner contracted Malaria and spent 9 months in New Zealand for treatment, and was later wounded by a machine gun bullet on the last day of Saipan. He was also a member of the Division band.
The uniform jacket has a 1942-1943 Quartermaster stamp on the interior left sleeve along with the written name WARNER. The jacket bears Private First Class chevrons on the sleeves, one service stripe on the cuffs, a 2nd Marine Division patch on the left shoulder, EGA collar insignia, a 6-place ribbon bar over the left breast pocket with the Purple Heart, American Defense Medal, Navy Presidential Unit Citation with 2 stars, the WWII Victory Medal, the Asiatic Campaign medal with four campaign stars, and the American Campaign medal, and on the left breast pocket are a Sharpshooter badge missing its pendant and a US Marine Corps ladder badge with rungs for Expert in Bayonet and Sharpshooter in Pistols.
The included Garrison cap retains its EGA but is not marked inside.
We found two articles online which go into detail about Warner’s service as well as provide a photograph of him.
A fantastic identified 2nd Marine Division uniform, ready for further research and display.
