The Story

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a genuine WW2 issue wartime model wrist compass, as used by Airborne troops on D-Day. This example is still fully functional, though it has lost some of the liquid dampening fluid (usually water), and is in fair condition with the original issue leather wrist band and partial box. The band is in solid condition with only minor verdigris buildup. There is some residue on the interior glass but otherwise is in good shape. The bottom portion of the box is all that retains and one side is broken off.

The compass is clearly marked on the reverse:

U.S. ARMY
COMPASS, WRIST,
LIQUID FILLED

TAYLOR MODEL

This compass, officially known as "Compass, Wrist, Liquid-filled", was made by Taylor, whose stylized logo is also on the rotating cover. The compass was usually seen worn on the wrist (duh!), but also over the sleeve, the shoulder loops, webbing, or at the ankle over the jump boots. Wrist compasses were used both by officers and enlisted men, unlike the lensatic compass, or marching compass, which was normally reserved for officers, NCO's or men on a special mission.

A lovely example ready for further research and display.
