Original Item. Only One Available. This is a rare example of a leaflet dropped by U.S. forces onto Japan to convince its citizens to give up their fight. This example is rather macabre, depicting a Japanese man being crushed under a steel beam amid within burning building. His arm is twisted & trapped under the beam.
The leaflet comes in a plastic sleeve with its direct translation printed on the back which also shows the back of the leaflet, depicting the macabre scene. The leaflet measures roughly 5½ x 8½”.
The back translates to:
These bombers overhead are strong beyond the dreams of inventors of only five years ago. This plane is over 20 times the size of your fighter planes; it is so heavily armored that unless it is hit in a few spots composing less than three percent of its entire surface, it is unaffected by bullets; its power is so great that it flies far above the maximum height of your newest fighters. It can carry a bomb load to you from more than 2,000 miles away, over twice as far as the range of the Liberator and Flying Fortress, even while its speed is also greater. Its power to oppose your planes comes not only from its guns, which combined have the fire-power of an infantry unit (Butai) in the Japanese Army but also from its speed - it is faster than your fighters at a great altitude. The bombers overhead, operating from bases close enough to the homeland to permit daily attacks, have the task of dropping explosives and incendiary bombs of a new type. You already know from experience that words cannot fully describe the frightfulness of their explosions, the barren wastes they make of factories and military installations, the grotesqueness of its victims bodies who were in the vicinity of military installations. The fires they create swallow up whole neighborhoods and snuff out all life. There is nothing which can protect you from these new weapons for those are the biggest contribution of science to the job of killing and destruction.
