Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is an original D-Day Eisenhower “Message to the Troops” letter as issued to allied forces prior to embarkation for the Normandy Landings in June 1944. The letter measures 6 x 9⅛” and comes with the Engineer Special Brigade ike jacket in which the letter was found.
The letter is in overall rough condition from being folded up and kept in the pocket of this jacket. The Ike jacket has an Amphibious engineer patch on the left shoulder, Technician 5th Grade chevrons on both sleeves, and four overseas stripes on the left cuff. There is a Ruptured Duck honorable discharge patch over the right breast pocket. The jacket retains the size tag, 36R, and a set of initials, SS, and a laundry number, S3823, and this with the initials make for a possible future identification! The interior tag shows a contract date of November 17th, 1944.Â
The letter is in fair but weathered shape overall, with heavy fold markings and some light staining. The edges where the folds are shows some minor material loss, and there is some staining to the letter as well. This is the first example we’ve offered with the uniform it was found with. Comes ready for further research and display.
