The Story

Original Item. Only One Available. This is an outstanding scrapbook page which provides phenomenal provenance that these letters were issued to members of Allied Forces prior to D-Day. This page, measuring 11 x 14 ½”, contains an original D-Day Eisenhower “Message to the Troops” letter as issued to allied forces prior to embarkation for the Normandy Landings in June 1944. The letter measures 6 x 9⅛” and is in fair condition, with some heavy folding and very minor staining & creasing. It obviously has some damage as having been pasted to the page.

The caption mentions that the letters were given to members of Allied forces in the European Theater of Operations before the invasion of France. Next to the letter is a photo of a famous French singer, signed “To John”, given to him the night he had dinner at his house.

Below this is a small clipping mentioning that the USAAF will be stationed in Europe after the war, the end of which mentions that some would be returned to the U.S., next to which Johnnie wrote “I am praying”.

The letter itself is in fair shape overall, with some heavy creasing marks.

A fantastic page which should be framed itself! Comes ready for further research and display.
