The Story
Original Item: Only One Available. A genuine WWII issue wrist compass as used by Airborne troops and Engineers on D-Day. This heavily worn  example is in good condition with some cracking and scuffing in the glass, and is nicely marked on the reverse:
CORPS OF ENGINEERS
U.S. ARMY
MANUFACTURED BY
SUPERIOR MAGNETO CORP.
L.I. CITY N.Y.
U.S.A
There is no date on this example.
This compass, officially known as "Compass, Wrist, Liquid-filled", was made by two manufacturers, Superior Magneto and Taylor. The compass was usually seen worn on the wrist, but also over the sleeve, the shoulder loops, webbing, or at the ankle over the jump boots. Wrist compasses were used both by officers and enlisted men, unlike the lensatic compass, or marching compass, which was normally reserved for officers, NCO's or men on a special mission.
This example features a correct leather early war issue wristband, which has some light stains and wear from storage and age. The compass is no longer liquid filled, but the crystal is still intact with 2 large cracks. Overall condition is very good. These
have become increasingly difficult to find on the market over the past decade.
