Original Item: Only One Available. This is a lovely service-worn WW2 USMC US Marine Corps P44 USMC Combat Field Utility Jacket in Olive Drab. This loose fitting sage green herringbone twill (HBT) cotton jacket features, original blacked brass "doughnut hole" USMC buttons which are still blacked, breast pocket and stenciled black USMC EGA insignia. There is a very faint marking on the flap near the collar, and we could make out O-4632, which looks like a laundry number, but as Marines didn’t use laundry numbers during World War II, we cannot say for certain.Â
The P44 Jacket was the second Utility Jacket the Marine Corps patterned during WW2, and replaced the earlier P41 Utility Jacket. The P41 had three sewn on flapless pockets, while the P44 has a flap over the breast pocket where the EGA is. The waist pockets were replaced with two large slit pockets that cover the entire chest area, where life preservers can be inserted. The front of the P44 also has inner and outer closure buttons for a more secure fastening, required if used as a life preserver.
Offered in service-worn condition with some fraying at the cuffs and tears in the material on one of the sleeves. There are more tears along the bottom of the jacket, a very theater-worn piece.
Comes ready for further research and display.
