Original Item. Only One Available. This is a very nice WWII Marine Corps Raider Captain’s service uniform with a set of bullion Captain’s bars on the shoulders and a very nice “Bloodied” Marine raider patch. What this means is that the base material behind the patch is red, which is meant to denote that the wearer saw combat with the unit. This was most often done with 1st Marine Division patches, but this is the first we’ve seen with it on a Raider patch.
In the pocket of the jacket were three small scraps of paper. One has an address and phone number, another has two names written, Carlton K Perkins and Byron C. Turner, both of whom were Lieutenants in the Marine Corps during World War II, and a small calendar page for November 21st, 1945, with a woman’s name, address, and telephone number are written. There is nothing that confirms the identity of the Captain who wore this, but with the two Lieutenant’s names, it’s possible this could be figured out in time.
The jacket has EGA officer’s collar insignia, a bloodied Marine Raider patch, and a three-place ribbon bar over the left breast pocket with the American Defense Medal with one campaign star, the American Campaign Medal, and the Asiatic-Pacific campaign medal with one star. The ribbon bar has one long pin which is heavily worn, and it falls off of the catch easily, but it should look fine for display. There is heavy fraying to the ribbons as shown.
There is a faint name in the interior armpit, which may be “Holmes” but it is too scribbled to transcribe. There is a maker’s tag for Carr, Mears, & Dawson of Norfolk, Virginia.
Included with the jacket are the Marine’s garrison cap, with no insignia or name inside, and a tie.
A very interesting Marine Raider Captain’s uniform with some research to be done. Comes ready for display.
