Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is a very interesting example of the U.S. Navy Diaphragm Mk IV Gas Mask, which has the canister entirely removed with a new tube and valve attached for attachment to an oxygen tank. Additionally, the vent on the front has been entirely closed off, so that the mask could be used for shallow diving and likely ship repair.
The U.S. Navy Diaphragm Mk IV Gas Mask was an updated version of the U.S. ND Mk III, but with even larger triangular eyepieces. Â The filter clipped to the head harness behind the user's head, with two hoses drawing air up towards the eyepieces. This example was originally manufactured by MSA (Mine Safety Appliances) with a date of 3 45 (March 1945)
The mask has the embossed USN for US Navy along with a U Size for Universal.Â
This is a very interesting conversion, the first of its kind we have seen. Comes ready for further research and display!
