The Story
Original Items. One-of-a-Kind Lot. The Vought F4U Corsair is an American fighter aircraft that saw service primarily in World War II and the Korean War. Designed and initially manufactured by Chance Vought, the Corsair was soon in great demand; additional production contracts were given to Goodyear, whose Corsairs were designated FG, and Brewster, designated F3A.
This is a great lot of signed photos from pilots of the Vought F4U Corsair. They include:
- 8 x 10” shot of pilot in cockpit signed by Roger Conart, a US Marine Corps fighter ace who flew with Marine Fighting Squadron 215 (VMF-215) during WWII. Recipient of 5 Distinguished Flying Crosses.
- 12 ½ x 15 ½” framed shot of Corsair flying, signed by five pilots with some ranks and units including Memphis Belle, VMF-214 Black Sheep, and Alaskan Cargo. Good research project.Â
- 16 ⅜ x 23” shot of Corsairs flying through the sky presented to Sikorsky Aircraft and signed by eight pilots. A great research project!
