The Story

Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is a tremendous display piece, a large 32 x 37” piece of aircraft skin which was painted with some gorgeous Looney Toons nose art, Bugs Bunny & Porky Pig riding a firework with the name “Wabbit Transit”. The skin itself is certainly genuine to a Vietnam era aircraft, but we aren’t certain when the artwork was done, if it was actually painted during the war or after the fact as a display piece.

The section appears to include the fuel apparatus, which retains the stenciled information above it:

MIL-F-5572 GRADE 80
AVAIATION FUEL
21 GAL. CAP.

The incorrect spelling of Aviation could be a typo, or it could mean that the markings were replicated on top of the paint post-war. Those stencils would be made and reapplied at unit level to apply if planes were repainted. The paint has some wear as shown in spots, and the back of the skin retains its framing pieces.

This is still a fantastic original piece of aircraft skin with great artwork, we just can’t say either way if it’s period or not. A perfect display piece for any aviation display.

Comes ready for further research and display.
