Original Item: Only One Available. This is a fantastic example of the rarely seen Austro-Hungarian WWI Fighting Knife, complete with its original scabbard and scarce ersatz canvas belt loop. These fighting knives were issued to troops of the Austro-Hungarian Empire who fought alongside Germany during WWI. After WWI many were re-used by Italian troops through to the end of WWII.
The knife is 13¼ inches overall, with a 8½ inch spear-point blade, which has a full-length bottom edge, with a 3 inch false edge on the top. There is a maker mark W engraved on the ricasso for Wiener Waffen Fabrik (Vienna Weapons Factory). Offered in very good used condition, the knife shows some light wear and oxidation, but also a lot of the original factory grinding marks. It also has the classic Austro-Hungarian wood grip panels secured by three pins, which have a lovely color.
The knife comes in a genuine rolled steel WWI scabbard with a great scarce ersatz canvas belt loop on the rear. Originally painted gray, the scabbard shows heavy wear to the paint, with areas of light oxidation. The scabbard is stamped V&N on the throat, for manufacture by the Austrian firm of Vogel & Noot. This is a fantastic example to have maker markings for both the knife and scabbard.
A gorgeous example for display in any quality Great War edged weapon collection. This is likely the best example of this knife we’ve had.
Specifications:
Blade Length: 8 1/2"
Blade Style: Single Edged Spear Point Knife with Upper False Edge
Overall length: 13¼“
Scabbard Length: 9 1/8"
