Original WWII German Service Worn 2nd Model Naval Dagger by Paul Weyersberg - Missing Scabbard & Lock Button

Original Item: Only One Available. We just purchased this nice service worn condition dagger from a private collector. It is a Solingen-Produced totally original WWII German 2nd Model Kriegsmarine Naval Dagger by the well-known firm Paul Weyersberg, and it is missing the scabbard as well as the button that releases the scabbard lock. This example looks to have seen long service, which would explain the missing scabbard and lock button. It has the standard double fullered blade, which is not plated, but does have the standard Kriegsmarine etched decoration, which shows oxidation.

This example was almost certainly purchased by a naval officer during the Pre WWII or Early War period, as indicated by the early period maker logo. It has very deeply inset wings and an impressive vaulted wreath. The details to this bird are also choice, with a striking eye, beak and breast.

The crossguard is the standard brass type, and retains all of the details well. The celluloid covered wood grip is in good condition with a bit of age, and some surface cracks and scratches, though none go through to the wood base. It still has a great ivory color, which hasn't faded to orange like so many do, and the original twisted wire wrapping is fully intact. The scabbard lock spring and catch are still present, however the locking button is missing.

The blade is in good condition, but does show wear and staining from past oxidation. It now has an overall grayish patina, and there is some past pitting towards the center of the blade. The etching is still mostly visible, and we have left the blade patina untouched to avoid further damage. As is correct, the blade has never been sharpened, and still retains the factory blunt edge and needle like unbent tip.

This great example was made by Paul Weyersberg of Solingen, the legendary "City of Blades" in western Germany. The reverse ricasso is etched with PAUL WEYERSBERG & Co. / SOLINGEN in double ovals around the firms trademark "Sword-and-Wreath" logo, which was the only marking they used during the Third Reich era. This company was one of many in Solingen owned by members of the Weyersberg family. The company survived the war, but ceased production in 1955. Overall a nice service worn example of a hard to find dagger by a well known Solingen maker! A worthy addition to any knife collection. Ready to display!
