The Story

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very good example of an Imperial Japanese Navy Cargo parachute pack, which still retains the original parachute inside! The bag features a yellow static line in the parachute itself that would be released when the parachute and cargo were pushed out of the plane. The parachute bag is a round, dome like shape and would be attached to cylinder like containers which were designed to carry ammunition, weapons, and other supplies for support of the paratroopers. Japanese paratrooper equipment is quite desirable considering that only three battalions were organized during World War II.

The pack has a rigid portion at the bottom, and measures approximately 16" by 16" x 9” tall. It is made from green canvas with yellow-orange trim, which we assume made them easier to see inside the airplane. The parachute is entirely white but has heavy staining from age. The four elastic lines on the bottom of the pack are intact but one has a break that was repaired with electrical tape.

There is a white cotton label in Japanese on the exterior of the tan canvas pack, which indicates the type of parachute that it is, and gives a production number of 1900807 next to the Naval ANCHOR inspection stamp. There is a date listed of 19. 7. 26., for July 26th, 1944 (Showa 19). The bottom line is the manufacturer, Fujikura Aircraft Industries. Ltd.

Condition is very good, though there is some dirt and staining, as well as some holes that may have rotted out over the years. A great Japanese WWII parachute in its original pack!
