Original Items: Only One Available. This is a very nice U.S. Navy WWII Emergency Fishing Kit No.5, still sealed in the original canister. In the sea, their only source of food would be rations on hand, and fish, so to survive an extended time at sea, fishing was the only option for food, as well as the water the fish contained. The kit would consist of an OD Green HBT roll, containing various fishing hooks, lures, and lines. There may also be some dehydrated bait, as well as instructions on how to use the kit. Measures approximately 9 inches long and 5 inches in diameter.
The can is marked faintly on the outside with:
EMERGENCY
FISHING
KIT No. 10
OPEN ONLY
FOR
ACTUAL
EMERGENCY USE
MANUFACTURED BY
ASHAWAY LINE & TWINE MFG. CO.
ASHAWAY, R.I.
APPROVED BY U.S.C.G. JAN. 29, 1943
SERIAL NO. ..1951..
The condition is very nice, with the expected wear from age and service, along with some heavy denting. There are areas of paint loss that have been replaced with rust. It is believe that the contents are still contained inside due to the weight, sound and because it is still sealed. The canister measures 8 ⅝” tall and is 5 ⅛” in diameter.
A very interesting bit of WWII Survival gear, ready to display!
