Original Item: Only One Available. This is both amazing and interesting. Manufactured during WW2 specifically to assist both Naval personnel and aircrews to identify U.S. WWII ships from a distance.
The set consists of 13 ships, with there being a slot for a 14th, but it is gone. Many of the present ships have damage as shown. Some of the ships have come off of their small board. Some of the ships include the USS Saratoga, the Brooklyn Class, the Iowa Class, the USS Enterprise, the Buckley class, the Tacoma class, the USS Louisville, the USS Oakland, and more.Â
Most are marked for manufacture by H.A. Framburg & Co. of Chicago, dated 12-44 for December 1944.
This set is contained in a wood chest measuring 11 x 12 x 4 inches that opens like a book to display the individual slots each containing a U.S. model vessel. Each vessel is made from lead and most are marked with the ship's name or class on the bottom.
The side with the handles is stenciled:
U.S. NAVY MINIATURE
U.S. SHIP MODELS
MARK I
SUPPLEMENT I
Not really appropriate for the bathtub as all are made from lead, but never-the-less this makes a wonderful display that is exceptionally rare.
