The Story
Original Item. Only One Available. This is a beautiful early World War I French "Fix" unofficial pilot’s badge. The badge was worn by pilots before the official 1916 badge was introduced: prior to that, pilots wore an emblem on their sleeve, and this eagle on their breast.
The badge measures ¾ x 2⅝” and is in great overall condition. The pin-back works great and the back of the badge still retains the maker’s marking, FIX in an oval. There are examples of these out there which were worn by American pilots before the introduction of their pilot’s wings. There are some vintage photographs, especially early in WWI, that show French pilots wearing the Fix style wings.
A great set of the early French pilot’s badge, ready for further research and display.
