The Story

Original Item. Only One Available. Much like Chile, Argentina had also turned its attention towards the German Empire to redesign its army in the last decades of the 19th century but unlike its neighbor, it kept elements of French and Spanish influence so some of their uniforms can be seen as somewhat anachronistic but much fortunately they made that choice because their uniforms and swords can be some of the most ''colorful'' of the bunch. Just like keeping the uniform styles, they kept sidearms much like this Artillery sword.

This is a scarce Argentinian Artillery sword manufactured by the legendary firm of Carl Eickhorn, located in Solingen, the "City of Blades" in Western Germany. The ricasso is stamped:

CARL EICKHORN
SOLINGEN

The spine is stamped with an inspection mark. The 31⅛” blade is in good order with past oxidation having been cleaned away. The leather blade buffer is intact, and the sword measures 36¾”. The hilt has a simple D-guard with single forward-swept quillon, and an intact hard rubber grip. The metal has a smooth, dark brown patina with thin surface oxidation throughout.

The scabbard is an incorrect German example and does not fit the sword all the way. It is stamped with heavy field artillery unit marking 5. A.F.H. 1. H. 80.

This is a great Argentinian sword, ready for display.

Approximate Dimensions:
Blade Length: 31 1/8"
Blade Style: Single Edged Slightly Curved Saber with Fuller
Overall length: 36 3/4β€œ
Scabbard length: 30 3/4”
