Original Item. Only One Available. The Walther Volksgewehr VG 1 is a manually operated bolt-action rifle, intended as a "last ditch" weapon for the Volkssturm (People's Storm) levée en masse national militia. The first of five designs fielded, it uses a simple rotating bolt, with locking provided by the two frontal lugs; the crude bolt handle engages a cut in the cast steel receiver to provide additional safety. The feed is from detachable 10-round box magazines, originally developed for the Gewehr 43 rifle. The manual safety is also very crude, and consists of a stamped steel lever pinned to the trigger guard just behind the trigger. When engaged, the safety lever blocks trigger movement. To disengage the safety the user must turn it sideways with a finger. The stock is crudely made from wood, and non-adjustable iron sights are provided for close-range shooting only. It was meant to be produced by Zbrojovka Brno in the current-day Czech Republic.
This is a very scarce original German WWII-produced manual for the Walther Volksgewehr VG 1, an extremely rare firearm and the first iteration of the “People’s Rifle”. The manual measures 2 ⅞ x 4 ⅛” and is 12 pages long including the back cover, with some very nice illustrations.
There are many fakes of these out there, most of them being 6 pages. This is the rare original 12 page version in overall good shape although there is some bending and overall staining.
A very rare manual, the first we have offered, ready for further research and display.
