Original U.S. WWII Japanese GI Souvenir Lot with Japanese Aircraft Gauge, Signal Flags & Original Manual, Trench Art Ashtray, and Tons of Photos, Paper Money, and Ephemera
The Story
Original Items. One-of-a-Kind Lot. This is a fantastic extensive lot of items an American soldier serving in the Asiatic-Pacific front would expect to find and have captured from Japanese soldiers or from during occupation. There is some great variety in here, and the items are sure to spruce up your collection!
The lot includes:
- Two Japanese red and yellow signal flags (14 x 14”) with tie strings and the original manual for their use! Manual is dated February 1939 and shows men using the flags and their meanings etc. a great set to find together.
- Japanese Ammeter from a WWII Aircraft sitting on wooden base.
- Trench art ashtray made from Japanese artillery shell and bullet in center, with three resting spots for cigars. Shell is 3 ⅝” wide.
- American cigar box filled with souvenirs including Japanese compass (not working), small aluminum bracelet likely made from airplane material, set of earplugs in wooden box (only one earplug remaining), metal data plate for “Type 92 driving 90 sighting light type 3”, Japanese and Malay US phrase books, two small silk sleeves with crossed cannons on them, possibly for powder, and a ton of Japanese money & postcards.
- Porcelain Sake bottle with embossed naval anchor and cherry blossoms. 5 ¾” long.
- Set of chopsticks in their original bamboo carrier.
- Photo of Japanese mother holding good luck flag with portrait of husband or son. Back shows passed by Naval censor.
- Small 6 x 9” Rising Sun flag, good pocket flag.
- 17 USMC Photos of marines in Guam during the war, all photos on cardstock/cardboard.
- Two 8 x 10” photos of Japanese troops with their gear laid down and after surrendering to US troops.
- Two embroidered scenes of Japanese temples or shrines, great pieces.
- 14 x 14” Doiley for National Defense showing a hula girl.
- 17 x 17” Souvenir of Guam sheet showing girl in bikini, 1945.
- 16 ½ x 16 ½” Souvenir for Peleliu, Pearl, Guam, all letters made up of Japanese characters, 1945.
