
The Story
Original Items. Only One Lot Available. Japan was occupied and administered by the Allies of World War II from the surrender of the Empire of Japan on September 2, 1945, at the war's end until the Treaty of San Francisco took effect on April 28, 1952. The occupation, led by the American military with support from the British Commonwealth and under the supervision of the Far Eastern Commission, involved a total of nearly one million Allied soldiers. The occupation was overseen by the US General Douglas MacArthur, who was appointed Supreme Commander for the Allied Powers by the US president Harry S. Truman; MacArthur was succeeded as supreme commander by General Matthew Ridgway in 1951.
This is a great lot of items collected by American soldiers while occupying Japan during the Post-WWII period. They include several souvenirs, photos, and knick-knacks.
The items include:
- Four loose scrapbook pages with photos on both sides, 40 photos total including two great AAF Nose art shots, āStill Putting Outā and the C-47 āJennyā. There are several photos of soldiers, cooks, airplanes, these photos are all taken at Randolph Field, San Antonio, Texas in 1942. The only page that isnāt from 1942 is on labeled "Rehabilitation of Japanā with photos of soldiers and another of MacArthur. Heavy tearing to the pages.
- Lovely Japanese-made metal cigarette case with engraving of mountain and port. Roughly 3 x 4ā.
- Small wooden box with depiction of ship in woodworking, box slides open and is empty. 3 ¾ x 3 ¼ x ½ā.
- Small embroidered bag filled with strips of paper with Kanji writing, possibly good luck charms or something similar.Ā
- Two small silk patches with Kanji writing, circular and possibly from uniform.
- 13 ¼ā Japanese pipe piece, wood with brass ends.Ā
- 6 x 8ā Framed photo of Japanese woman, frame is missing nails so the photo and glass fall out.
- Captured Japanese 100 note.
- Captured Japanese postcards, roughly 5.
- Small group of 20 or so photos taken of sight-seeing, Japanese civilians, etc. One shot shows a sign for Marine Fighting Squadron 441.
- Souvenir Japanese Calender, 1947, incomplete.
