Original U.S. Indian Wars Navy M1879 .45-70 USN Cartridge Box

Original Item. Only One Available. This is a very scarce model of cartridge box which opens in a peculiar way. The lid is secured by a securing knob on the right side, and lifts leftward held on by the strap on the left side. This example shows period alterations with old stitch holes still visible on the body. There was likely a knob at the bottom which is now on the right side. The lid is embossed with the U.S.N. insignia with small stamped star marks on areas across the box.

The interior of the box likely originally had a wooden block insert which is now gone. There are no markings we could find on the box indicating a maker. Both original belt loops are still retained, and this will look great in any Early Navy or Indian War collection.
